Nick Westrate will return to the role of troubled brother Daniel in the off-Broadway hit Tribes. Westrate begins performances on November 19 and will remain with the production through its closing on January 6, 2013. He succeeds Will Brill, who originated the role and will play his final performance on November 18. Westrate previously filled in for Brill from May 30 to July 1.
Directed by David Cromer, the production opened at off-Broadway’s Barrow Street Theatre on March 4. In addition to Brill, the current cast of Tribes includes Russell Harvard as Billy, Susannah Flood as Sylvia, Lee Roy Rogers as Beth, Jeff Still as Christopher and Dina Thomas as Ruth. Tribes tells the story of Billy (Harvard), a deaf man who has trouble connecting with his opinionated hearing family. When he falls in love with Sylvia (Flood), a hearing woman who is slowly going deaf, he is introduced to a new world he never knew existed.
Westrate appeared on Broadway in A Moon for the Misbegotten, and off-Broadway in Galileo, Love’s Labor’s Lost, Unnatural Acts, The Little Foxes, The Boys in the Band and Terre Haute.
